Bredesen, MD and his colleagues from the Alzheimer’s Disease Reseaerch Center, Department of Neurology at UCLA, and the Buck Institute for Research on Aging (Novato, CA) have shown in 10 alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients with memory loss and cognitive decline, improvement in memory in 9 individuals and a returning to work in 6 subjects in 3-6 months of following a multimodal, individualized program optimizing diet, biochemical parameters, nutrients, antioxidant status, hormones, blood sugar, inflammation, gut health, stress, sleep, exercise and brain stimulation.
This use of multiple modalities follows a Functional Medicine
approach to optimizing body biochemistry, which can enhance
and regenerate neurologic function. Single monotherapies
with pharmaceuticals have failed to show meaningful
benefit in AD patients.
