Menstrual Cramps Improved by Diet and Vitamin D
A single dose of 300,000 IU of Vitamin D3 has been used 5-6 days before menstruation with a reduction in pain. This dose should only be taken under the supervision of your doctor. (references below)A low fat, whole food, 4 food group, vegan diet was shown after two cycles to lower menstrual pain. (reference below)
Simple Recommendations to Reduce Menstrual Pain:
1) Diet – Eat a low allergy, low fat vegetarian diet picking plant food off the BED Diet Food List, or no more than 1 palm full of animal food daily eating from the BED Diet List.
2) Basic Supplements
Daily multivitamin mineral
B Complex
Vitamin D 2000-5000 IU/day
Magnesium 300-600 mg/day (equal to or more than caclium)
Calcium if added 300-600 mg/d
Primrose oil 1-2 capsules daily
Fish oil or DHA 1-2 capsules daily or 1-3 tablespoons of ground flaxseed oil daily
3) Exercise
Aerobic, strength training (circuit training is effective, simple and safe) and flexibility daily or at least 4 days per week. Just 10-15 minutes of each per work out.
